Dr. William J. Sandborn, a distinguished physician-scientist, clinician and administrator at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, has accepted the position of Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at UC San Diego.

The announcement came August 23 from Dr. Wolfgang Dillmann, Interim Chair of the Department of Medicine, and Dr. David Brenner, Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine at UCSD.

Dr. Sandborn is currently Dorothy A. Adair Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean of Research for Intellectual Property and Industry Relations at the Mayo Clinic. He is Vice Chair of the Mayo Clinic’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
