The Department of Medicine is very pleased to announce that Dr. Jess Mandel has been appointed as Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine effective September 1, 2018. Dr. Mandel will work closely with the Chair of Medicine and the CEO of the Health System to ensure the continued growth of the Division in all of its missions.
Dr. Mandel received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1991 He completed his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in 1996 and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in 1998. Dr. Mandel joined the UCSD School of Medicine faculty in 2006 as Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and was promoted to Professor of Clinical Medicine in 2010.
Dr. Mandel is an award winning clinician and educator and is known nationally and internationally for his impressive record in pulmonary/critical care medicine and medical education. His long list of campus leadership and service roles since joining the University is note-worthy.
